Hot Chocolate Bar

'Tis the season for fabulous hot beverages. Don't get us wrong, we love a good orange crush in the summertime but there is something romantic about enjoying a hot cocoa on a winter night.

Incorporate that dreamy feeling to your winter wedding, by creating a hot chocolate bar at your reception.

Set up a bar, with glass or copper mugs, bowls full of marshmallows and make Ina Garten’s hot chocolate for all to enjoy.

Double Hot Chocolate

Serves approximately 50

• 25 cups or 1.5 gallons of milk
• 2.5 quarts of half-and-half
• 5 lbs of bittersweet chocolate, chopped
• 5 lbs of milk chocolate, chopped
• 10 teaspoons sugar
• 10 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 10 teaspoons instant coffee powder


Heat the milk and half-and-half in a saucepan on medium heat to just below the simmering point. Remove the pan from the heat and add both chocolates. When the chocolates are melted, add the sugar, vanilla extract, and espresso and whisk vigorously. Reheat gently and serve immediately. Use a vanilla bean or cinnamon stick to garnish each serving.

Serve in a stainless steel coffee urn. Fun additives would be straws, whipped cream, marshmallows and cinnamon sticks.
